Standardized Botanical Powders
Our standardized botanical powders (or SBPs) are certified, pharmacopoeia-based, 100% pure, steam-treated, and consistent products. The powders meet the international criteria of acceptance in terms of quality for oral human consumption. SBPs are simply the straight herb powders that have been processed so that they are completely uniform and consistent in quality.
The quality is monitored throughout the process using official analytical methods to ensure compliance to the SOPs and the resulting quality standards. Each batch is tested for objectionable contaminants like microbes, pesticide residues, aflatoxins, heavy metals and other undesirable substances declared by regulatory bodies, from time to time.
The SBP represents the herb in its true natural form, as in this form, the herb does not undergo any chemical processing or alteration to enrich any of its constituents. The manufacture of SBPs does not involve any extraction, concentration or elimination of any components. Since the raw herbs, are likely to have microbes present on the surface, in spite of washing, the botanical powders are steam treated for microbial decontamination or sterilization.

The main advantages of SBPs are that the totality of the botanical is presented without removing anything from it which is in-line with the “holistic” principles of Ayurveda. Unlike most extracts, the botanical powders are generally not hygroscopic and thus do not require any carriers/excipients and thus are 100% natural. In addition to their health benefits, powdered herbs contain insoluble fibres that provide several benefits to the body including maintenance the beneficial intestinal flora in the gut. Moreover, the herb powders are believed to be more stable than their extracts, as with powders the secondary metabolites are still present in their natural packaging (tonoplast – the lipid bilayer which forms the vacuole in plant cells) within the intact plant cells. Higher stability indicates longer shelf life when stored properly (as per standard recommendations). SBPs are relatively much more economical than their respective extracts.
