Thank you for stopping by our booth at Vitafoods Europe 2025!
It was a pleasure to connect with you and share our passion for quality herbal teas. At Herb
Artizan, we craft tea experiences. From chamomile and ginger to cardamom, turmeric,
cinnamon, and beyond, every blend reflects our commitment to maintaining quality and
standards. As a herbal tea enthusiast, you would also agree that herbal teas are delicate. Their
vibrant aromas, rich flavours, and therapeutic benefits come from fragile compounds like
terpenes and phenolics.
Traditional packaging, however, fails to protect them. It exposes teas to oxygen, which triggers
oxidation and dulls flavours. Humidity invites microbial growth, leading to spoilage. Light and
heat degrade active ingredients, such as turmeric’s curcumin or chamomile’s bisabolol. The
result? Teas lose their freshness, potency, and appeal within days. As for our passion of
delivering the best, this simply isn’t acceptable.
Hence, we replaced the traditional packaging with Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP). MAP
is a cutting-edge preservation technique. Simply put, it replaces the air inside a package with a
precise blend of gases, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sometimes oxygen. This tailored
environment slows spoilage, blocks oxidation, and prevents microbial growth. It ensures every
leaf and spice retains its essence, delivering the quality you expect from Herb Artizan.
How MAP Preserves the Freshness
Here’s how it benefits our teas:
- Extended Shelf Life: MAP lowers oxygen to 0–5% and uses carbon dioxide and
nitrogen. This halts oxidation and microbial growth. Fresh herbs like chamomile last
15–30 days at 2°C, compared to a few days in standard packaging. - Preserved Aroma and Flavour: Low oxygen safeguards essential oils. Ginger keeps its
zesty bite. Cardamom holds its citrusy spark. Our teas retain 90% of their sensory
profile, far surpassing the 60% of conventional methods. - Enhanced Safety: MAP’s carbon dioxide-rich environment reduces bacteria and moulds
by 2–3 log CFU/g. Every cup is safe and pure. - Protection from Light and Heat: Paired with opaque packaging, MAP shields light-
sensitive compounds. Turmeric’s curcumin and chamomile’s bisabolol stay potent,
preserving their health benefits. - Premium Experience: MAP locks in vibrant colours, like turmeric’s golden glow, and
fresh aromas, like cinnamon’s warmth. Ensuring that you enjoy tea at their peak.

Logistics | Stackable, refrigerated transport | Limited stacking, higher spoilage |
MAP in our craft
MAP packaging is the gold standard for retaining the freshness for herbs, optimising gas blends to preserve aroma during storage. At our Tamil Nadu facility, where ginger’s scent lingers, MAP prevents aroma blending. Each herb retains its distinct character. Our stackable packaging streamlines logistics, ensuring quality from our hands to yours, no matter the distance.

FAQs for Clarity
What is Modified Atmosphere Packaging?
MAP replaces air in packaging with a tailored gas mix, like carbon dioxide or nitrogen. It slows spoilage, extends shelf life, and preserves quality for herbal teas.
What is an example of MAP packaging?
Our Xtend™ MA/MH packaging for fresh herbs is a prime example. It uses low oxygen (0–5%) and high carbon dioxide to keep chamomile or mint fresh for 15–30 days.
What does MAP mean in packaging?
MAP stands for Modified Atmosphere Packaging. It refers to altering a package’s gas composition to enhance shelf life, safety, and product quality.
What is the difference between CAS and MAP?
Controlled Atmosphere Storage (CAS) manages the atmosphere in large storage facilities, like warehouses. MAP applies a controlled atmosphere to individual packages for transport and retail.
Is MAP safe for herbal teas?
Yes. MAP uses food-grade gases and reduces microbial growth by 2–3 log CFU/g, ensuring our teas are safe and pure.
Can MAP preserve the therapeutic properties of herbal teas?
Absolutely. MAP minimizes oxidation and light exposure, protecting compounds like chamomile’s bisabolol or turmeric’s curcumin.
Why choose Herb Artizan’s MAP-packaged teas?
Our MAP technology, driven by R&D, ensures unmatched quality, safety, and sustainability. Every tea delivers exceptional aroma, flavour, and potency.
